Car Trouble??

It's been so hectic around here lately that I completely forgot to blog about my new car!! Last week we purchased a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. I absolutely love it! As a good friend put it, "welcome to 1998" because I now own a CD player!!

Anyway, we had some errands to run this evening. One thing I always enjoy about Friday evening errands is it usually involves dinner out! So tonight we ate down on the farm at Bob Evans Restaurant. I always get the chicken parm which I can never finish so we got a box for the leftovers.

On the way home my ABS light comes in the car which unfortunately this is the second time it has come on. I'm not happy about this since we have put less than 400 miles on this car and there is already a problem...so my hubby comes up with a way to "test" my car to see if the all wheel drive still works with the ABS light on. We are on a back road close to the house. He instructs me to come to a complete stop and then says to push the gas to the floor. So, I do...but not only does the gas pedal go to the floor, so does the giant box of leftover chicken parm go to the floor. All.of.it. All over my BEIGE floor carpeting and seats. I was so fuming mad! How could none of us think about this before it happened?? Not only that, but I didn't warn my children sitting in the back seat to hold on...they probably got whiplash! We did come to the conclusion that nothing is wrong with the all wheel drive. The tires didn't spin at all!!! So I had quite the mess when we got home. Thankfully it didn't stain my carpet and my seats are leather so that was easy. Whew! So that was our eventful Friday evening. Thanks for listening to me babble on!

Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me Monday! This week I was full of imperfections, more than normal! Ok, here goes...

I did not try to fix or completely write out some of my five-year-old daughter's valentine cards for her school classmates because I waited until the last possible moment to do them and then needed to hurry along! I especially did not "fix" her letters on the valentine card to her teacher, Mr. W, no way!

I didn't accidentally scrape my car bumper on the side of the garage door as I was backing out because I was in such a rush to leave and wasn't paying attention. And I didn't try to "clean up" the bumper with Windex and a paper towel to cover up the little scrape so my hubby would not see. No, not me!

And finally, while at the grocery store I didn't get one of those enormous car grocery carts (to please my children and keep them quiet while shopping) and then run into the Fachnaught display stand (which I shouldn't even be looking at) and knock over a huge sign. Then not knowing how to put the sign back, just left it lay there. I would never do such a thing! Nope, not me!

Working Mommy Wednesday

What do you do about work when your child is sick?
Whose responsibility is it to stay home when daycare is not available?
Should Mom be the typical caregiver or should Dad step in?

Fortunately our kids have been very healthy so far this winter so I am very thankful for that! My daughter is almost 6 years old and is in half-day morning kindergarten. After school the bus drops her off at the babysitter until my husband picks up after work. My son is almost 3 years old and also stays at the same sitter 3 days a week and with my wonderful dad 2 days a week. I am very blessed to have my dad those 2 days because he takes my son even when he is sick! However, if it is not his day to watch my son, then I would typically be the one to stay home with him as well as with my daughter. Although my husband has already left work early and picked my daughter up from the sitter when she was not feeling well. So depending on the day and who has more vacation days available to use, this is usually the person who stays home. I think when my kids were younger, my husband was almost "afraid" to watch them, even when they weren't sick, because he was worried that they would cry and he wouldn't know what to do. Now that they are older, he is a lot more comfortable and steps up to the plate more often. I do believe it should be a shared responsibility just like so many other aspects of being a parent. You are in it together and it works better when you are a team! In my opinion, I do think mothers are just naturally more nurturing and children tend to come to Mom more often for comfort when they are not feeling well.

Weekend Review

Well, another weekend has come and gone, although it was a productive one! Last weekend Jimmy and I had cleaned the laundry area and garage as well as some closets and needless to say, there was some JUNK to get rid of! I had a pile of things to go to Goodwill, some clothes for my nephew, and baby gear that we have outgrown to go to consignment. So on Saturday morning I packed up the kiddos and we headed to the consignment shop to get rid of our Pack N Play. I'm interested to see what it sells for. But how nice, all you have to do is drop it off and you get 50% of the profit! We then headed over to Goodwill and dropped several bags of goodies off there. It felt good to clear out!

The kids were still holding up, so we tackled Toys R Us, looking for a birthday present. This is always usually fun because my kids never seem to understand that we are buying for someone else and they are not getting anything. Although this trip went pretty well. We then went over to Ollies to look around, and by this time my phone has rang at least three times, 2 of which were my husband, and once from Nanny. She was calling to see if Hannah wanted to go to lunch with her and Hayley so we all ended up meeting at McDonald's. While we were there Uncle John and Katie stopped by and ended up taking the girls for a day at their house. So Cody and I headed home and I did get some laundry and cleaning done. We went over to Nanny's for dinner and to pick Hannah up over there.

Sunday is typically the dreaded grocery store day. I wanted to head out early to avoid the rain. I've been planning my meals for the week which is working out well. Although some weeks I do go over budget. I defintely need to use more coupons!! I find it hard enough just to make time to search for recipes and make a list of ingredients. My Ipod has a grocery store list app which has made it more easy and fun! I don't know how many times I have made paper lists and got to the store to find out that I forgot my list and my memory is not that good...Anyway, the rest of the day was spent just relaxing at the house, which is always fine with me. I can always find things to do. Both kiddos have birthdays coming up and I did design their invitations on the computer that evening. Can't believe my babies are turning 3 and 6!! So overall it was a fun but productive weekend. Ready for the start of a new week!

Happy New Year!

Wow, another year has gone by...2010 is here. I always look forward to a brand new year. New beginnings, new memories...

Looking back, 2009 was overall a great year! I think the most memorable times were our camping trips over the summer. We had great times with family and friends. I think our favorite trips were Frontier Town and Knoebel's. We also had an exciting adventure in late August with Hannah starting Kindergarten and all the fun stuff that goes with this. I am so fortunate to be able to get her on the bus every morning and have a wonderful private babysitter for both kids! I remember thinking last year, how in the world am I going to work and have a child in 1/2 day Kindergarten. I was upset to lose my Monday off after having this for five years, but surprisingly, I often wonder how in the world did I make it out the door by 6:40 AM for that many years???

Unfortunately, one very sad thought comes to mind thinking back over the past year. August 6th, 2009 was a very sad day, the day my boss and friend, Dr. Lanpher passed away. It is still a shock and at times feels like it can't be true...but sadly it is. Things will never be the same at AAC but slowly we are trying to move forward and carry on the way he would want us to. GBL you are greatly missed!!

Everyday is a blessing and gift and I am looking forward to a brand new year. My kiddos are growing up so fast before my eyes and I am glad to have this blog to look back on and reminisce. I just need a few more hours in the day to post more often!!! Here's to a healthy and happy 2010!!
